Pine is a symbol of virtue with a strong and indomitable character. It is also widely regarded as an auspicious plant and a symbol of longevity, “blessed as the never-ending flow of the East China Sea, life is akin to that of the Pine trees of the Nanshan Mountain”. The combination of the two can be said to bear the tenacity of “no matter how long life is, one must be brave to overcome all adversity”.

The ancestors who settle here embody this. Just like a tenacious pine tree, living strong in the hearts of their descendants to accompany them through thick and thin. At the same time, the pine tree serves as a reminder to every descendant who pays tribute that one must never be fearful of hardship and overcome it, no matter how tough life is.

Here, the elders can introduce the younger generation to their ancestors’ expansive history, biographies, memorable contributions and legacy. This provides further insight and allows descendants to honour and treat their ancestors with reverence.
